La Finca Golf Property - Go-Karting

Just a short drive from our property on La Finca Golf is the Go-Kart Track at Torrevieja. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I opted out of actually driving on the pretence that someone needed to look after bags, cameras etc. Not really chicken - just public spirited!!

We debated whether we would be allowed on the track as we were all wearing open sandals, surely not the best footgear for controlling vehicles at excessive speed. And my daughter-in-law was wearing a skirt, a bit removed from the racing overalls one would expect. And there is 'elf and safety' to consider. However, this is Spain, and all was OK. Although the skirt was a bit of an embarrassment and a third hand would have been useful as the slipstream(!) lifted her skirt so she was in danger of showing her knickers.

At least there were concessions for hygiene with plastic shower caps to wear under the crash helmets.

Our grandson had to wait in his child's go-kart on his own, while younger grand-daughter was set up sharing a cart with her father.

Just a little worried.........

This was very well organised and enjoyable. If you ever go to Torrevieja, do try the go-karting.

And if you decide to buy our property on La Finca Golf, Algorfa, then you could visit lots of times!

Torrevieja itself is a lovely town. Miles of lovely promenade with man made inlets in the sea to provide small beaches and bays for easy bathing. A great many cafes and restaurants on the front and pretty pedestrian shopping streets. Oh the shoes..........Leave the plastic cards at home.

La Finca visit and car park disaster

We have always travelled to our golf property on La Finca Golf, Spain, using Luton Airport. On this occasion though we were due to meet friends from Cornwall who were flying from Exeter. So we needed flights that would meet up in Alicante at roughly the same time - not withstanding, delays, cancellations and volcanic ash clouds! This meant us flying from Stansted, then our arrivals would be within 10 minutes of each other.

We hadn't used Stansted before, so we looked up details of car parking. The only major piece of information I found was to be sure to get on the correct colour zone bus when collecting the car after the holiday. So we carefully noted the colour of our car park zone (blue) and the number of the bus-stop (1) and relative position of the car. And we wrote it down - can't be too careful. A surfeit of Spanish red wine can petrify the grey cells.

The weather in Spain was hot and sunny and our newly installed aircon was much appreciated. After a great holiday at La Finca Golf, we arrived back at Stansted and duly boarded a blue zone bus to the carpark and after a 10 minute drive, the driver announced the number of the bus stop then - the letters of the alphabet...................OMG we didn't know which letters we should be.

The driver was as helpful as he could be in the circumstances: 'Well, luv, there are 30,000 cars in this carpark and if you don't know where yours is , I'm sure I don't'.

Great. It was dark, pouring with rain, and there were 30,000 cars to look through.

So we got off the bus at the first number 1 bus stop (A - J) and YES it was the right one and there was my little blue Astra. Lucky or what.

La Finca Golf Spain matures

The entrance to the La Finca golf course was looking very smart by this time and the individual gardens and communal gardens maturing nicely. The development is split into different communities, each managed by a president and responsible for the maintenance of gardens, pool, street lighting etc. It all seems to work very efficiently.

We were issued with 'zappers' for the electric gates at the entrance to our street. Now even though the grandchildren are older, when we visit Spain they still want to take it in turns to zap the gates open. At this time we were still discovering the local shop just around the corner and trying the cafes and restaurants. Its great the the main restaurants are within easy walking distance - saves taking the car. Although we did explore the nearby towns for other eating places.

La Finca Golf Spain property - completed

We completed on our property at La Finca Golf, Spain in 2005. Compared with how pretty it looks now, it was very bare then. The individual gardens had not been planted and the plants in the lanscaping were very small. We had no palm tree in our front garden and the lawn we had then was dead because
it had not been sprayed at the correct time of year to get rid of the bugs that ate the grass roots.

We had chosen all the furniture from a store in Los Montesinos together with light fittings, kitchen equipment etc. So many decisions to be made almost instantly - the brain hurt. A wonderful elecrical shop in Algorfa supplied the oven and delivered and fitted it the same day - amazing.

We met neighbours from across the road who helped out. Their business included maintaining some of the gardens and they also ran a property management service. They have been looking after our property ever since, coming over once a week to check everything and are brilliant at doing the occasional job.
They run the taps, flush the loos and start up the boiler. Apparently if this isn't done regularly, it can seize up.

We bought garden furniture and ordered a gas coal effect fire from a local supplier. Beginning to get organised - although still a lot to do. Then of course the inevitable holes to drill for towel rails, bathroom mirrors and fittings etc.

La Finca Golf Spain

La Finca Golf Spain - beginning

We decided in 2004, we would buy a property on La Finca golf course in Algorfa, Spain for several reasons - as well as for the golf of course.

First consideration was the security as the property was likely to be unoccupied for parts of the year.

La Finca Golf promised secure properties with grills at the window, secure parking with electric gates, security phones in
the house and a security patrol.

Then there was the issue of the proximity to shops and restaurants. We did not want the property to be in a town because of noise and traffic. La Finca offered a development of local shops and restaurants within walking distance, so no need to take the car while still being in a beautifull rural environment. The plans for the communal gardens looked lovely; there were several swimming pools, so none of them would ever be too crowded or noisy.

We visited several times while the property was being built, staying at at La Zenia. It was so exciting to see the property growing. Quara, the developers, who also built VillaMartin, were very efficient. They sent regular emails showing progress, choice of tiles for the bathrooms etc.

The solicitors we chose were also very helpful. They still pay our utility bills for us and provide any advice we need, usually by email.
